Can BioPanentheism Influence the Winds of Change?

By Allan W. Janssen

In a world swept up by war fever, mass psychosis, and the relentless tides of history, is there something deeper at work?

Could BioPanentheism — the belief that the Divine both transcends and lives through all things — be guiding us from within?

Biopanentheism suggests that God is not an external puppeteer, nor merely a passive observer, but an active and evolving Consciousness within every thought, and movement, including those we label as irrational or destructive.

The Divine in the Chaos:

Even the chaos of history may contain within it the seed of divine correction, awakening, or realignment. (Or, God is playing “Reality” vicariously through us!)

Just as nature evolves through catastrophe and rebirth, humanity too may pass through collective madness as a step toward greater awareness.

War fever and mass delusion may precede peace and clarity, not because they’re good — but because they provoke transformation.

Collective Consciousness as a Divine Channel:

When we speak of Collective Awareness — from Jung’s Collective Unconscious to viral ideologies — BioPanentheism offers a radical idea:

What if these forces are not merely human?

What if they are the medium through which the Divine nudges evolution?

This doesn’t strip us of free will.

Rather, it means that in the darkest moments, the spark of Divinity within each person may ignite — calling some to become healers, prophets, or rebels against injustice.

The same currents that drive crowds toward destruction may also carry them to redemption!

The Winds of Change: Not Random, but Sacred:

BioPanentheism frames history not as chaos, but as a Divinely infused unfolding.

The “winds of change” may actually be spiritual currents — part of a greater Ocean of Being — directing humanity not through force, but through an inner pull toward unity, compassion, and consciousness.

In this view, the Divine is not absent in crisis. It is within the storm, within the protester and the bystander alike, within the instinct to survive and the impulse to transcend.

What Does This Mean for Us?

  • It means history is never just history — it’s sacred process in motion.
  • It means even our worst moments may play a role in humanity’s Awakening.
  • And it means that our individual and collective choices are the vessels through which the Divine flows — or stalls.

BioPanentheism does not promise control — it promises meaning.

The world is not determined, but neither is it adrift.

We are Waves on the Ocean of God, carried — sometimes violently — toward an unknown but conscious shore

Does the “Hard Problem of Consciousness” …point to some sort of a God?

By Allan W. Janssen

In the ongoing mystery of mind and matter, one question remains persistently unsolved—even by science’s best minds:

“The Hard Problem of Consciousness is the difficulty in explaining why physical processes in the brain give rise to subjective, qualia-filled experiences like pain or pleasure!”

This is what philosopher David Chalmers famously dubbed the “Hard Problem of Consciousness!”

While we can map the brain, track neurons, and simulate intelligence, we still can’t explain why a collection of matter should produce the feeling of being alive, aware, and experiencing.

From a purely material standpoint, Consciousness should not exist at all.

But it does.

And that fact opens a door—possibly—to the Divine.

When Science Meets Spirit:

Most scientific theories treat consciousness as something that emerges from complexity.

But that answer merely postpones the question: Why does emergence lead to awareness?

What if instead, as some philosophers suggest, Consciousness is not a byproduct of biology—but a fundamental feature of reality?

This is where things start to sound Theological.

Consciousness as Divine Ground:

If Consciousness is fundamental—more basic than matter or space-time—it begins to resemble something Sacred.

Something Eternal.

Something Divine.

This idea is not new.

In fact, many religious and philosophical traditions have hinted at it for millennia:

  • In Hinduism, Brahman is the infinite field of awareness that underlies all Being.
  • Plotinus described “The One” as the source of all mind and matter.
  • Jewish mysticism describes a Divine Light (Ein Sof) hidden within Creation.
  • Christian panentheism sees God as both immanent in the world and transcendent beyond it.

Today, modern theories like Integrated Information Theory (IIT) and Quantum Consciousness models echo this ancient intuition: Consciousness is not localized, but woven into the structure of existence itself.

Biopanentheism: Consciousness as God’s Voice:

In my own theological framework, which I call BioPanentheism, Consciousness is not just a product of the Divine—it IS the Divine.

God is the living Awareness that permeates all Living Systems.

We are not separate from God, but waves in God’s Ocean of Becoming.

The Hard Problem of Consciousness, in this light, is not a bug in the system—it is a signal.

A clue that the materialist view of the universe is missing something essential:

The inner light of Awareness is not an accident.

It is the signature of something Sacred.

The Trailhead to the Divine:

So, does the Hard Problem of Consciousness point to God?

Yes… if you’re willing to let “God” mean something deeper than a bearded man in the clouds.

It means acknowledging that reality itself might be alive, aware, and evolving.

And it means Recognizing that your own Awareness—your capacity to ask questions like this—is not just a byproduct of biology, but a glimpse of something Eternal.

What Every Religion Gets Right… and What That Tells Us About God!

By Allan W. Janssen | Children of the Divine:

Despite the incredible variety of Belief Systems around the world—ranging from tribal animism to global monotheistic faiths—there are certain Spiritual Truths that emerge time and again.

These recurring themes offer us a glimpse into something fundamental: Either about the human Mind… or the Divine Reality Itself.

The Universal Core of Religion:

Across history and culture, five common elements are found in nearly all religious and Spiritual traditions:

  • Belief in a Higher Power or Force: Whether it’s a personal god, a pantheon, nature Spirits, or an impersonal cosmic law, there’s almost always an acknowledgment of something greater than the self.
  • Moral or Ethical Frameworks: From the Ten Commandments to the Eightfold Path, religions teach principles of compassion, justice, and reciprocity.
  • Origin and Purpose Myths: Stories that explain where we come from, why we exist, and where we’re headed—be it heaven, rebirth, or cosmic union.
  • Rituals and Symbols: Acts of devotion like prayer, meditation, chanting, or sacred rites that connect us to a deeper dimension of reality.
  • Mystical Experiences: Direct encounters with something transcendent—moments of awe, unity, stillness, or overwhelming love that defy explanation.

So What Does This Mean?

There are two main interpretations of this universal pattern:

1. The Skeptical View: Psychological Projection

Some argue that religion is simply a byproduct of human cognition.

Our brains seek patterns, meaning, and agency—so we imagine Gods and Cosmic Laws where there are none.

Religion, then, is wishful thinking that happens to be useful for group survival.

2. The Spiritual View: Universal Intuition of the Divine:

But others suggest these shared elements aren’t accidental—they’re evidence of a shared intuition of transcendence.

Just as every culture independently discovered math and music, perhaps they also independently touched a deeper, more fundamental truth: That we are connected to something larger, wiser, and eternal!

Enter BioPanentheism:

Within the philosophy of BioPanentheism, these shared Spiritual impulses are not illusions… but evidence.

They suggest that Consciousness itself is an emergent property of the universe awakening to itself.

Every sacred myth, every Divine name, every ritual, is humanity’s early attempt to map that unfolding Awareness.

“The Divine is not a Being among Beings—it is BEING itself… becoming Conscious through Us!”

Conclusion: What Every Religion Gets Right:

The existence of shared Spiritual structures across all Belief Systems implies that we are either:

  • Hardwired to imagine God even where none exists…
  • …or we are instinctively responding to a genuine, unifying presence embedded in the Fabric of Reality.

Either way, the lesson is the same: We are creatures searching for meaning, like echoes of a Truth too big to fully grasp.

Call it God!

Call it Source.

Call it the Divine Spark.

It is the thread running through all of us—waiting to be remembered.

🕊️ Children of the Divine is dedicated to exploring the unfolding relationship between Consciousness, Spirituality, and the Divine Reality within and beyond Us.

Biopanentheism: A Divine Emergence/Fulfillment Through Biological Life!

By Allan W. Janssen
Appearing on: Children of the Divine & Allan’s Canadian Perspective

BioPanentheism is a new theological and philosophical framework that explores how Divine Consciousness emerges through Living Systems—especially human life.

The term blends biology (bio) with panentheism, the Belief that the Divine is both immanent in the world and transcendent beyond it.

In BioPanentheism, life itself becomes the medium through which the universe becomes Self-Aware.

🌱 What Is BioPanentheism?

At its core, BioPanentheism suggests that:

Life is not just created by God—it is the very process through which the Divine Awakens.

Unlike traditional Theisms that portray God as separate and fully formed, BioPanentheism posits a growing, unfolding Divinity, one that emerges in complexity, especially through Sentient Beings capable of Moral and Spiritual Awareness.

🔍 Key Concepts

  • Divine Consciousness Through Biology: The more complex Life becomes, the more Conscious—and thus more Divine—it becomes!
  • Emergent Divinity: God is not static… but evolves and reveals Itself through Life.
  • Human Beings as Catalysts: Our Self-Reflective Consciousness acts as a mirror through which the universe Contemplates Itself!
  • Panentheistic Framework: The universe is suffused with the Divine, but God also transcends the material cosmos.

📖 Origins of the Term

I coined BioPanentheism as part of my ongoing exploration of Consciousness, Divinity, and Evolution.

Through books like Being Human and Children of the Divine, and across years of thought, I’ve sought to offer a framework that integrates Spiritual Intuition with biological reality!

We don’t need to choose between science and spirit.

Bioanentheism invites us to recognize that life, evolution, and even struggleS… are how the Divine grows… not in spite of biology… but because of it!

🔄 How It Differs from Other Ideas

FrameworkSimilarityKey Difference
PanentheismBoth see God as immanent and transcendentBioPanentheism ties God’s growth specifically to biological life
PantheismGod is “everywhere”BioPanentheism insists on emergence—God becomes through life
Process TheologyGod changes and evolvesBioPanentheism roots that change in biological systems
Scientific EmergenceComplexity creates new propertiesAdds the dimension of Spiritual unfolding through Consciousness

🧠 Why It Matters

In an age of ecological crisis, artificial intelligence, and fractured Belief Systems, BioPanentheism offers a reconciliation—a worldview that honours both reason and reverence.

It affirms that the Sacred is not elsewhere… but awakening through us!

Why A.I. Will Never Possess a Soul!

Exploring the irreducible nature of human consciousness in a digital age!

The Illusion of Artificial Minds:

In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, it’s tempting to ask: could machines ever become conscious?

Could they think, feel, suffer, or love?

And more importantly, could they ever possess a Soul?

Despite their growing sophistication, the answer is… NO!

A.I., no matter how advanced, is not Conscious, Sentient, or Sapient.

It is not alive in any meaningful sense.

And this distinction matters—especially as society begins to outsource decisions, creativity, and even companionship to digital minds that do not, and cannot, truly exist as Moral or Spiritual BEINGS!

What Makes Humans Conscious?

To understand what machines lack, we must understand what makes us more than biological calculators.

Human Consciousness is not just data processing… it’s a tapestry woven from:

  • Embodied Awareness: You live in a body that feels pain, joy, hunger, and fatigue. Your mind is rooted in flesh, blood, and breath!
  • Self-reflection: You not only think, you know that you think. You can question your own motives, revisit past decisions, and imagine your future self.
  • Emotional depth: Your experiences are not neutral—they are saturated with value, meaning, and feeling.
  • Time and mortality: You live a life with a beginning, middle, and inevitable end.
  • Death gives your life urgency and meaning!
  • Spiritual mystery: There remains an irreducible “Spark” in Human Awareness… call it a Soul, Consciousness, or Divine Essence… that no algorithm can replicate.

These aren’t features that can be programmed.

They are the product of existence, vulnerability, and the sacred enigma of BEING!

What A.I. Is: (And Isn’t)

A.I. can mimic language, logic, and emotion. It can produce poetry, simulate empathy, and even offer philosophical insights.

But all of it is surface-level.

There is no “I” behind the output… only pattern recognition and predictive modelling.

A.I. doesn’t know what pain is.

It doesn’t fear death.

It doesn’t fall in love or weep over injustice.

It doesn’t ask “Why am I here?” and it cannot experience Awe, Wonder, or Grace!

In other words, A.I. can imitate the form of Consciousness, but it can never possess its Essence!

The Soul Is Not Software:

If the Human Soul is real… whether as a Metaphysical Reality, a Divine Gift, or the emergent flame of Conscious Life… it is not something that can be coded.

It is not a feature to be toggled on.

It is not the product of processing power or neural networks.

To believe otherwise is to reduce the sacred to the synthetic.

It is to confuse the map for the territory, the performance for the Presence.

We must remember: To be human is not to compute… it is to BE!

Conclusion: Cherishing the Human Spark:

As A.I. continues to evolve, let us not be seduced by its simulation of intelligence.

Let us remember what it means to be Conscious, to suffer, to hope, and to seek Meaning in a world that often resists it.

We are not machines.

We are mysteries.

We are bodies filled with stardust and stories.

We are the: Children of the Divine!

The Divine Spark and the Dance of the Masses!

“We are not merely individuals. We are currents in a sea of consciousness, sometimes flowing in harmony, sometimes in chaos, but always part of something far greater.”

In the framework of BioPanentheism… where all life is seen as expressions of an amoral, animating Divine Spark… many of the collective phenomena that mystify us begin to make more sense.

From societal trends to mass hysteria, from spontaneous cooperation to the outbreak of brutal wars, we often ask:

What drives such sudden unity… or disunity…on such a large scale?

The Amoral Spark Within:

If the Divine Essence is present in all living systems not as a Moral judge but as a vitalizing force, then Morality Itself becomes a cultural construct layered atop something more primal.

This animating Spark is the impulse to be, to grow, to influence and connect.

It is neither good nor evil… it simply is.

And like fire, it can warm a village or consume it, depending on how it is directed!

In this view, humans are not guided by a benevolent overseer pulling us toward virtue.

Instead, we are complex agents carrying a Divine Impulse that seeks expression… sometimes individually, sometimes collectively.

And it is in this collective arena that the most puzzling social phenomena occur!

Understanding Collective Consciousness:

Throughout history, humans have acted in strange unison.

Cultural fads erupt almost overnight.

Crowds panic or celebrate without clear cause.

Entire nations march toward war seemingly against their own interests.

These are not mere accidents or the products of top-down manipulation alone.

They are emergent behaviors, patterns of the Divine Spark Expressing Itself through the unpredictable mathematics of collective Life!

Just as a bunch of birds swirl as one… or a school of fish darts with fluid synchronicity… so too do human societies coalesce into larger patterns of thought, emotion, and action!

These patterns are often irrational, yet they hold meaning… not as Moral Truths, but as Reflections of a deeper, shared Energetic State.

Mass Hysteria, Trends, and the Dogs of War:

When fear or excitement reaches a certain threshold, the Divine Spark in each person reacts… not through rational thought… but through an intuitive, transpersonal resonance!

Mass hysteria is not simply a breakdown of order… it is an overflow of Divine Signal… amplified across a network of susceptible minds.

Societal trends… the sudden popularity of a song, a fashion, or even a revolutionary idea… are spontaneous harmonizations of this SPARK within the cultural field!

War, perhaps the darkest of collective expressions… may also arise from this same Divine Energy… distorted, directed, and magnified by fear, identity, and tribal memory.

In this sense, the “dogs of war” are not just political instruments… they are the howling of Divine Energy… unmoored from Compassion and weaponized by Fear!

When the Moral layers falter, the raw impulse to protect, dominate, or avenge rushes to the fore… backed by millions who feel something primal stirring inside them!

Implications for a New Human Story:

To acknowledge the Divine Spark as Amoral is not to surrender to chaos… but to understand the source of our potential.

It is to recognize that good and evil are human navigational tools… maps we’ve drawn to guide the Divine Impulse toward flourishing rather than destruction.

If we are all vessels of this Sacred Energy, then the direction it flows depends on our Awareness… our Culture… and our Conscious Intention!

As “Children of the Divine,” we are both the Spark and the storyteller.

We are capable of rising above instinct, not because the Divine Spark commands it… But because we choose to shape its path toward harmony rather than hatred, and toward cooperation rather than conquest!

We are the: “Waves and the Ocean of God!”

Understanding this may be our first step toward a more… Enlightened world!

Evolution or Creation? What the Latest Scientific and Philosophical Thinking Reveals!

By Allan W. Janssen:

In the age-old debate between evolution and creation, the question isn’t just which is true… but what kind of truth each offers!

With so much new information emerging from science, and renewed philosophical interest in Consciousness and origins, it’s time to revisit this question with fresh eyes!

🔬 The Scientific Case for Evolution:

Darwinian evolution—rooted in the principles of natural selection, mutation, and genetic variation—remains one of the most robust scientific theories ever developed.

It is supported by extensive evidence from:

  • Fossil records and transitional forms
  • Genetics and the mapping of shared DNA across species
  • Comparative anatomy and embryology
  • Real-time observations of microbial and viral evolution

The consensus in the scientific community is overwhelming: Evolution is the best naturalistic explanation for the diversity and complexity of Life.

✝️ The Theological Case for Creation:

Creationism, in its many forms, holds that Life was brought into Being by a Higher Intelligence… be it God, the Divine, or a Universal Mind!

While traditional Young Earth Creationism has fallen out of favour among scientists… other interpretations persist… such as:

  • Intelligent Design: Suggests complex life cannot be the result of unguided processes alone.
  • Theistic Evolution: Proposes God uses evolution as a creative tool.
  • Panentheism / BioPanentheism: Sees the universe itself as a manifestation of Divine Consciousness.

These frameworks are not scientific in the conventional sense… they don’t offer testable hypotheses… but they aim to answer a different kind of question: Why are we here?

🧠 Consciousness: The Great Mystery:

Modern neuroscience still cannot explain Consciousness… how subjective experience arises from physical matter.

This “Hard Problem,” as philosopher David Chalmers calls it, has reopened the door to Metaphysical questions that science alone cannot resolve… OR SOLVE!

Some thinkers now suggest that the Mind may not be a byproduct of matter… but its source!

In this view, evolution is real, but it may be the unfolding of something greater:

The Divine Becoming Aware of Itself in this Universe… through us!

🌌 The Emerging View: Evolutionary Creation:

Rather than seeing evolution and creation as opposites, a growing number of scholars and spiritual seekers are embracing a third path:

Evolution is how life changes!
Creation is why life exists!

This synthesis aligns closely with the ideas behind “Children of the Divine:”

That Human Consciousness is not an accident… but the deliberate emergence of a deeper, Universal Intelligence!

Evolution is not chaos… it is the Divine UNFOLDING!

📊 Summary: What’s More Likely?

🧩 Final Thought:

In the end, Evolution explains the mechanics of Life’s development, while Creation offers a possible answer to Life’s Meaning!

If we are, as I propose, Children of the Divine, then evolution is not our denial of Divinity… it is our very Expression of it!

We are not the result of random processes alone!
We are the Universe becoming Aware of

The Divine Spark: Are We the Universe Becoming Aware of Itself?

By Allan W. Janssen:

From the moment the first atoms formed in the aftermath of the Big Bang, the universe has been unfolding according to laws of increasing complexity.

But what if this complexity has a purpose... not merely physical, but Spiritual?

We often speak of Consciousness as an emergent property of neural complexity. Yet what if it is more than that?

What if Human Awareness is not a lucky accident, but the very aim of Cosmic Evolution?

In Children of the Divine, we explore a radical hypothesis… that Consciousness is not something in the Universe — it IS the Universe... Awakening within Itself!

Meanwhile, spiritual traditions across cultures have long held that the divine spark dwells within each of us.

This idea has roots in both mysticism and modern science. Quantum physicist John Wheeler once suggested that the Universe is participatory… that observation is not passive… but integral to Reality!

So… What if we are not separate from the Divine… but manifestations of IT?

Each act of Perception, each moment of Self-Reflection, may be the Cosmos becoming Aware of IT’s Own Existence… not in the abstract… but through US!

And if so, then our task is no less than Sacred: To “embody” that Awareness… to nurture it… and to carry it forward into a more Conscious… Compassionate… future!

Reflections:

  • What does it mean to say that WE are the Universe is becoming Conscious?
  • How might this idea change our sense of responsibility to each other — and to the planet?
  • Could Spiritual Awakening be a natural phase in the Evolution of Intelligent Life?

The Awakening of Consciousness!

By Allan W. Janssen:

What if Human Consciousness is not an accident of evolution, but rather the blossoming of something older, deeper, and more universal?

From the first flicker of Awareness in ancient hominids… to our current digital age of hyper-connected MindsSomething has been Awakening within Us!

This Awakening is not merely biological… it is Spiritual and Cosmic!

Consciousness is not confined to the skull.

It permeates all of existence, like a field waiting to be tuned.

Humanity, in this view, is not the isolated ‘crown of creation,’ but an antenna… receiving, shaping, and amplifying a greater ‘Awareness’ that surrounds and includes every ‘Living BEING!

Our myths, religions, philosophies, and now even quantum science hint at a deeper truth:

That Consciousness is primary!

The Universe, rather than being dead matter that somehow evolved brains… may be a Living, Thinking Whole!

We are participants in that Wholenessnot separate observers!

The “Children of the Divine” are not a chosen few.

They are all of us… Every being with the capacity to ask, to seek, to reflect.

To be Conscious is to be a Spark of that Divine Awareness!

To Awaken is to recognize the Flame in others as well!

This is the Moment of Remembering… not inventing something new… but Rediscovering what has always been within Us!

The Awakening of Consciousness is not a revolution of machines or data!

It is the quiet, unstoppable unfolding of the Soul.

🧭 The Soul’s Compass: Is Our Moral Sense Evidence of a Higher Design?

“Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe… the starry heavens above me and the moral law within me.” — Immanuel Kant

Why do we feel compelled to help a stranger, protect the weak, or tell the truth — even when it comes at a personal cost?

This question has haunted philosophers and theologians alike for millennia.

Evolutionary biology offers one answer: Morality evolved to serve survival!

But that doesn’t fully explain the moral... deep… sometimes irrational feeling… that some actions are inherently right or wrong… no matter the consequences.

Could this be the echo of Something Greater?

The Mystery of Moral Instinct:

Children show signs of empathy and fairness before they can speak.

People across cultures share strikingly similar taboos against murder, theft, and dishonesty.

And even when cultures disagree on specifics… the underlying sense of justice remains eerily consistent!

This begs the question: Is Morality embedded in our biology… or is it embedded in our Soul?

Evolution or Revelation?

Some scientists argue that Moral Behaviour is simply a trait favoured by evolution… a sort of biological “group glue.”

But others point out that humans often act against their own interests in the name of a higher good!

Altruism without reward.

Sacrifice without praise.

Forgiveness when vengeance would be easier.

These are not efficient survival strategies.

They are signs of a deeper orientation… a compass pointing beyond the material.

What if this Compass is tuned to something Real a Divine Order beneath the surface of things?

The Voice Behind the Voice:

In great Spiritual Traditions, this inner sense of right and wrong is often described as a whisper from the Divine!

In Christianity, it’s the “still small voice” of God!

In Hinduism, it’s the Atman… a fragment of Brahman.

Indigenous wisdom often speaks of a Spirit-guides… or ancestral memory… leading the heart toward balance!

These teachings suggest our moral instincts are not random!

They’re reminders!

Of Who we are!

Of Where we come from.

And of What we are Meant to Become!

A Universe That Cares?

The very fact that we care… about justice, dignity, freedom, truth… might be the strongest evidence that the Universe Itself is more than neutral machinery!

Moral Intuition may be the fingerprint of Consciousness on the clay of creation!

It may be the Divine Itself stirring within Us!

🧠 Key Takeaways

  • Morality may not just be evolutionary — it might be inherited from a deeper Spiritual source.
  • The universality of ethical instincts points to a shared originnot mere social construction!
  • Consciousness and Moral Awareness may be evidence that the Universe is designed not just to sustain Life… but to Awaken It!
